OLOFF aims to energize people and organizations who think it’s important to actively preserve and restore opportunities both for people choosing to conduct their entire lives Offline and for people going Online to always use free (‘libre’) software and hardware with total assurance that their status as human beings is consistently respected and their data never abused.

OLOFF focuses on issues and obstacles raised by

• the steadily narrowing possibilities for cash payment
• the steadily narrowing range of services available without a smartphone
• the steadily growing range of services requiring people as a matter of course to agree to terms of service unilaterally imposed by app stores and providers.
• shrinking control over growing amounts of cloud-based private data
• increasing (digital) complexity in getting ordinary operations and interactions going

Consider such common situations as:

• buying and selling (cash and online)
• making appointments (doctor, dentist etc.)
• study (enrollment, educational settings and materials)
• contact with public authorities (identification, taxes, licences, benefits)
• travel (public transport, parking, documents)
• energy and water consumption (smart meter)
• daily domestic chores and operations (locks, heating, lighting)
